The Blue, the Grey, and the Scarlet

Maybe someone out there remembers this one.  The unofficial cover from KnightWatch Press graces the top of my blog, as a matter of fact.  Well, after a solid, short run, KnightWatch went kaput and tossed some of their yet-unpublished anthos overboard to other willing publishers.  They were then taken over by a new imprint called Fringeworks.  Anyway the antho I was contracted for never made it out of the gates.  That’s life in small-time publishing,  I’m really sad to say.

I wrote my story “A Pound of Flesh” back in 2011, just to give you an idea of how long this Civil War horror compilation has been on a slow simmer.

Anyway, Neon Moon Publications has taken over the contracts, and last I heard, the book is slated to be released in March.  We shall see…

Here is the TOC, in order they will appear, as I understand.

1 – Dog Meat – Nathan Barnes
2 – A Pound Of Flesh – Kim Krodel
3 – Where Angels Fear To Tread – J. Rodimus Fowler
4 – Traitor, Coward, Betrayer – Russell Brown

10 – The Lost Unit Of South Mountain – Ken Courtenay
11 – When Johnny Came Marching Home – Jeff Suess
12 – Place Of Refuge – Dale Eldon
13 – Stonewall – Brent Abell
14 – Meat For The Beast – Buck Weiss

I’ll keep you posted.  They say good things come to those who wait, so this book should be a real firecracker by that logic.

Hunger Pangs: Dark Confessions

Tales for Your Dining Pleasure…

Seems I am late for dinner, folks.  Apparently this squirm-inducing collection came out in November and I had no idea!  Oh well, I’ll still eat mine cold.

hunger pangs

Hunger Pangs includes my short story “The Smokehouse.”

The collection encompasses the theme of cannibalism in general, with a heavy dose of post-apocalyptic yarns.  It’s a great way to satisfy your end of the world cravings now that the Mayan’s didn’t come through.

Here is the blurb:

“From the ravenous Donner Party expedition to the twisted mind of Albert Fish, and verily even the fictitious Hannibal Lector from Silence of the Lambs to the recent rampage of carnage spawned by the Florida Face Eater, fascination with cannibalism has always been intense. How hungry do you have to be…or how sick to eat another human? You are cordially invited to dine with some of the finest authors in the horror genre as we savor the delights of these tales; dress code is relaxed, bring a friend, regrets only, RSVP not required.”

And here is a short teaser from my survival tale “The Smokehouse.”  For any mothers who ever pondered how far they would go to save their kids, this is a fun read. :)

“The shake in her hands caused the rays to bounce and seize against the black-leaf backdrop.  Ellie was suddenly bone-tired.  Was this the way she had come before?  Her wavering light panned over the humus carpet in search of beaten-down growth.  She followed what might have been her previous path with shallow breaths and unshed tears clouding her eyes.

Finally she broke through the clearing.  The moon cast a jaundiced glow as Ellie fanned her light from side to side.  She should be relieved to have made it this far, but her bowels clenched and turned to water.  So far from home, from her babies, and from the comfort of a locked door; the distance grabbed her heart in a frozen fist.  If an infected person had been roaming out here during the day, more could be in the area.

And here she stood; a glowing target on the corner of a vast field.”

Well, happy holidays and 2013, all!  I’m sure I won’t post again before the New Year (not with my track record).  Make sure it’s turkey or ham they’re serving ya, and not humans–the other white meat.

Well, Would Ya Look at That…

It seems the coconut doesn’t fall too far from the tree.  Not that my sister actually fell from my tree, but you know what I mean.  Anyway, here is a preview of the upcoming anthology, “From Their Cradle to Your Grave.”  My sister Dana Priebe has a short in here called “Afterbirth” and let me tell ya, it’s a doozy.

Sweet, huh?  Should be out by the end of this month from Cruentus Libri Press.

Now, I’m off to work.  Stop bothering me.

I Put the B.O. in Blogging

As in, I stink at it.  I really should get over here at least every week or so, but I’m averaging every month, I think.  That could be overly generous.

In my defense, I have 2 other blogs, but still, I need to step it up a bit.

New news?  First of all, FEAR is out now from Crooked Cat.  All of the proceeds from this two volume anthology go to charity (Doctors Without Borders and Barnardos).  My story, “It Sticks With You” about a scourge of killer wasps, is in Volume Two.

And, the drabble book, “Little Stories for the Smallest Room,” has finally made its way to the Amazon store.  It includes my 100 word story (or drabble), called “Lactic Acid.”

Wow.  That is one big, nasty crapper!

Both books are available in electronic and paperback formats.

So, that’s the latest.  I’ll do my best to post more often, or my name isn’t The Fonze.  I also need to sit down and write some horror, as I’ve been remiss lately.

Have a happy All Hallows Eve, if you don’t hear from me before then!

Two Great Reviews for Childhood Nightmares

So, you know, that’s cool and stuff.  One review is posted on Amazon, as well as Knightmist’s blog.   The author says there are “stories that will drive even some adults to pull up their covers.”  :)  I like that.

A Hidden Stone

by Kim Krodel

The other is on HorrorAddicts.net.  My story “Baby Teeth” even got a shout out!  I tried to reblog, but it must be that time of the month for WordPress.  That, or I need to hold a gun to my computer’s head (or increase my memory).  Maybe both…

Kim Krodel:

My buddy, The Hook, is giving away his book on Amazon for free today. If his blog is any indication, this book should be a laugh-riot. I intend to pick up my e-copy right now. Check it out.

Even the douchebags.

In fact, they should download multiple copies; after all, they owe me for the last fifteen years! But right now, my gentle readers, you’re probably thinking about something else.

  • The guys are thinking, “Does reading Fifty Shades of Grey automatically make me gay?”
  • The girls are thinking, “Will Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson patch things up in time for the  premiere of the nextTwilightfilm?”

But after those thoughts have run their course, you’ll all be thinking, “Why is The Hook giving his book away? Has he finally snapped after slugging one laundry basket too many for some ungrateful douche-monkey?” While I will no doubt eventually snap, that day…

The Love Shack by Kim Krodel

Kenny’s fist that clutched the crumpled twenty shook with excitement as he approached the door.  He didn’t know how many ladies there were to choose from in the shack, but he couldn’t wait to look them over with a judicious eye, and finally take his new prize home.
